Sun, December 9, 2007 - 1:32 PMYou may like this instead of a CD --

"ACG" is a closed-end fund paying out 7.31% annually, paying a monthly dividend, trading at a 5.31% discount to NAV, and it's not very volatile. Best thing about it is you can trade it all day long like a stock, you only pay broker commissions to buy and sell it, and you can put stop orders under it to greatly reduce your risk.
Here is the recent chart --

Also, here is another idea... the multi-currency sandwich...

Re: Highest CD Rate Survey updated Dec 4:
Tue, December 11, 2007 - 1:29 PMSomething paying twice the TBill rate makes me suspect it is far, far riskier than CDs.
It might be fine to trade ACG instead of trading some of the high risk tech stocks in my newsletter explore portfolio, but I'd sure not consider it a replacement for CDs where you ALWAYS get all your money back.
People chasing yield is what got some into trouble with the subprime meltdown. Some clueless investors thought "fixed income" was the same as CDs and are now surprised to learn they can lose a bundle.

Re: Highest CD Rate Survey updated Dec 4:
Thu, December 13, 2007 - 9:22 AMWhy not try both the CDs and ACG, and set your stop order on ACG so that it doesn't hurt if it ever gets hit, and see which performs better over time? That's the beauty of getting into investments that allow stop orders. Stop orders minimize risk. Same goes for scaled trading (money management) methods.
